Tanians

The humans of Tania came from a faraway land fleeing an ancient evil. After years of toil and hardship, they arrived on the shores of Peranda. Their leader, Harald Wolfbane, was tasked by the natives of the land, the secretive Huldra, with wielding the Sword That Lie Buried, which came to be known as the Sword of the Creator and was imbued with magical powers that kept evil at bay. This sword would become the foundation of their realm, and the Kingdom of Tania grew to become one of the greatest kingdoms in known history.

Their empire spans the northern part of Peranda, a continent that they share with the ruined Orcish kingdom of Scorpath and a host of other peoples to the East. The King rules from his central seat of power in Niran, and here he decrees major laws and leads the empire's armies. Lords rule each canton in the King's name, and these sections of land usually contain a central hold of their own and a village or two, which may be controlled by mayors, jarls, counts or barons, depending on where in Tania they are.

The major houses of Tania all arose from families that founded the kingdom. For example, House Greymoor is descended from Harald Wolfbane himself, and though they were once a mighty house they have faded into relative obscurity over the centuries.

Houses of Tania

Almost all Tanians worship the Creator, their sole deity and the being that they claim created the entire universe and all that lies within it. However, a recent cult known as The Order of Taries has been gaining popularity, especially among the lower classes. They claim to offer religious enlightenment, however their real beliefs are unknown, as they have an highly secret initiation ceremony that few have ever witnessed.
